David F. Mozqueda was born in the city of Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. He began his guitar studies with teachers Guillermo Díaz Martín del Campo and Fernando Martínez.
He then entered the music school of the University of Guadalajara, where he studied under Professor Fernando Corona.
At this school, he obtained the title of Music Instructor and Bachelor of Music – Concert Soloist, specializing in classical guitar. He then moved to the United States, where he won a scholarship to study at the University of Southern California (USC), where his guitar teachers included renowned classical guitarists William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant, James Smith and Bryan Head. In September 1999, USC again awarded him a scholarship, and he headed to the U.S. to pursue his master’s degree.
David Mozqueda has also taken masterclasses in classical guitar and baroque music with : David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Pepe Romero, Bryan Johansen, Alirio Diaz, David Starobin, Scott Tennant, Carlo Marchione, Bryan Head, David Leisner, David Tanenbaum, Oscar Ghiglia, Ricardo Cobo, Costas Cotsiolis, Lily Afshar, Malcolm Hamilton and James Smith, among others.
He has won national and international competitions such as: the “Manuel M. Ponce” International Classical Guitar Competition, where he was awarded second prize. Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Clásica “The Great Lakes International Guitar Competition”, held in Akron Ohio, USA, where he won second prize.
From 1982 to 1987, he took part in the national classical guitar competitions organized by the INBA in Morelia and Paracho Michoacán, winning first prize for four consecutive years.He has been a soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jalisco, the Symphony Orchestra of Michoacán, the Chamber Orchestra of the Conservatorio de las Rosas, the Chamber Orchestra of Nayarit and the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato.
He currently teaches classical guitar, chamber music and orchestral practice in the music department of the University of Guadalajara.
